Cornell College invites applications for a full-time, 10-month assistant athletic trainer. This position will assist the head athletic trainer in all aspects of the athletics training program, including evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.  Assist with the supervision of the sports medicine assistants, and the supervision and operation of the training room. Assist with the supervision of athletic practices and athletic events as directed.  Team travel may be required on occasion.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree and commitment to the values, standards, and expectations of NCAA Division III athletics and a liberal arts college.  National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification required. Must be eligible for license in state of Iowa. Preferred qualifications include CPR and First Aid Instructor Certified, master's degree and previous experience as a certified athletic trainer.

Must have a valid Iowa driver's license and insurance coverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge and skills in preventing athletic injuries, providing physical examinations, developing training and conditioning programs, selecting protective equipment, creating a safe athletic environment, and evaluating athletic injuries.  Ability to make appropriate medical referrals, providing first aid and emergency care, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries, counseling and guidance of athletes, and educating sports medicine assistants. Knowledge of ordering equipment and supplies, record keeping, supervising sports medicine assistants and ability to work collaboratively with student health care providers.  Ability to construct orthotic and protective devices, proficient use of all training room modalities, and to develop and maintain professional medical contacts. Must be self-directed, well organized and capable of assuming varied responsibilities. Administration, management and supervision of employees are key components for the success of this position. Computer knowledge is preferred.
